Combining indicators: stacking evidence, not repeating it

After this lesson you can group indicators by what they measure, avoid counting the same evidence twice, and build a simple evidence stack that leads to a Favourable, Neutral or Cautious reading.

Indicators ko milana: saboot jorna, dohrana nahi

Indicators ke paanch khandan hain: trend (EMA 50/200, Supertrend), momentum (RSI, Stoch RSI, MACD), volatility (Bollinger, ATR), volume (OBV, VWAP) aur location (support, resistance). Ek hi khandan ke tools aapas mein milte hain kyunke ek hi data se bante hain. Stoch RSI khud RSI se banta hai. Asal confirmation tab hai jab mukhtalif khandan ek hi taraf ishara karein.

Har trade se pehle har khandan ko +1, 0 ya -1 dein aur wajah ek line mein likhein. Sab se ahem hissa woh saboot hai jo aap ke khayal ke khilaf ho. Mixed saboot ka matlab Neutral reading hai, aur aksar sab se acha amal intezar hai. Barqish ka Evidence board yahi kaam karta hai: haq aur khilaf dono saboot saath saath dikhata hai.

Quran 2:282 qarz likhte waqt gawahon ka hukm deta hai, taake record ek shakhs ki baat par na tike. Do gawah ka matlab do alag log hain, ek shakhs ka do baar bolna nahi. Paanch momentum indicators ek hi gawah hain jo paanch baar bol raha hai. Alag saboot dhoondein aur apne khilaf saboot ko bhi insaaf se tolein.

  1. Har khandan se ek tool lein aur usay gehrai se samjhein.
  2. Ek khandan ke tools ka milna confirmation nahi, dohrana hai.
  3. Mixed saboot par Neutral reading aur sabr behtar hai.

The story

Hamza, a shopkeeper in Quetta, had nine indicators on his chart: RSI, Stoch RSI, MACD, CCI, a momentum line and four moving averages. One morning all nine agreed, and he felt certain. He bought with more than he usually risked. Price fell 11% that week. Later he realised that all nine were built from the same recent closing prices, five of them measuring momentum and four measuring trend. They had not confirmed each other; they had repeated each other. He had two opinions, counted nine times.

Five families of evidence

Most indicators belong to a few families. Tools in the same family usually agree, because they are calculated from the same data in similar ways. Real confirmation comes from different families pointing the same way. Five families cover almost every tool on a Barqish chart:

  • Trend: EMA 50 and 200, Supertrend, swing structure. Which way is the main current?
  • Momentum: RSI, Stoch RSI, MACD. Is the push getting stronger or weaker?
  • Volatility: Bollinger Bands, ATR. How much room does price need?
  • Volume: volume bars, OBV, VWAP. Is participation behind the move?
  • Location: support, resistance, key levels. Is price at a sensible place to act?

Avoid redundant tools

Pick one tool from each family and learn it deeply. RSI and Stoch RSI together add almost nothing, because Stoch RSI is calculated from RSI itself. MACD and an EMA 12/26 crossover are close cousins too, since MACD is literally the gap between those two averages. A clean chart with four well-understood tools beats a crowded one with twelve, and it is much easier to read calmly.

Building an evidence stack

Before any trade, score each family: +1 if it supports the idea, 0 if neutral, -1 if it argues against it, with the reason in one line. Then choose a reading: Favourable when most families agree and nothing important argues against; Neutral when evidence is mixed; Cautious when key families point against the idea. Trend and location usually deserve the most weight, because momentum tools can look attractive inside a falling market.

The number itself is not the point. The point is forcing yourself to look for evidence against your idea, which is the evidence people most often skip. The Evidence board on each Barqish market desk does this: it shows what supports the current reading and what weakens it, side by side. When families disagree, the reading is Neutral, and the wise action is often to wait, reduce size or keep watching.

The numbers

Worked example: scoring an idea on a KMI-30 stock

Suppose you are studying a KMI-30 stock. Trend: price above a rising 200-day, +1. Location: retesting a flipped zone that held, +1. Momentum: RSI 54 and flat, 0. Volume: the rally into the zone came on falling volume, -1. Volatility: ATR normal, bands not stretched, 0. Total: +1 out of a possible +5.

Reading: Neutral. Trend and location support the idea, but weak participation argues against it. A sensible plan is to wait for a daily close above the recent high on above-average volume. That would turn volume to +1 and the total to +3.

Now Hamza's chart. RSI, Stoch RSI, MACD, CCI and his momentum line are all momentum tools; the four averages are all trend tools. His nine 'yes' answers were really two: trend +1, momentum +1. Volume, volatility and location were never checked.

The Islamic lens

Quran 2:282, the verse of debt, asks for witnesses when a debt is written, so that a record does not rest on one person's word alone. There is a useful lesson here for analysis. Two witnesses means two separate people, not one person repeating himself. Five momentum indicators saying the same thing are one witness speaking five times. Seek evidence from independent sources, write it down, and include the evidence against you. Weighing evidence fairly, even when it disappoints you, is part of the truthfulness Islam asks of anyone who trades.

Education, not a fatwa. Where scholars differ, we say so. See what scholars say.

The trap

Adding another indicator each time a trade fails, hoping the next one will finally bring certainty. Crowded charts create false confidence, because similar tools agree with each other. The result is larger positions on weaker evidence, and confusion when the tools disagree at the worst moment.

Your drill

Open the gold desk and scroll to the Evidence board. List every item it shows as supporting or weakening evidence, and label each with its family: trend, momentum, volatility, volume or location. Is any family missing or counted twice? Then open 'Plan before you act' and write the one condition that would change the reading.

Key takeaways

  1. Indicators fall into families: trend, momentum, volatility, volume and location.
  2. Tools from the same family repeat each other; confirmation needs different families.
  3. Score evidence for and against, and let mixed evidence lead to a Neutral reading and patience.

Pass with 2 of 3 to complete the lesson. Answers are checked on our server, so the certificate means something.

1. Which pair gives the most independent evidence?

2. Trend +1, location +1, momentum 0, volume -1, volatility 0. Which reading fits best?

3. All nine of your indicators agree, and seven are momentum tools. What is the right conclusion?
